This research aims to optimize of the desulfurization process through the ladle-refining furnace in the melting shop ofAbu Zaabal for Industrial Engineering Company. The Optimization of desulfurization process has been studied in the LadleRefining Furnace of the melting shop with respect to the amount of desulfurizing agent, deoxidation power of Silicon, Stirring energy, and the temperature as well as The composition and the sulfur content of slag have been determined to calculate the partition coefficient of sulfur at different deoxidizer content, and different content of desulfurizing agent. Y. Yang and Sosinsky- Sommerville modelshave been used to determine the deviation between the measured and computational method for sulfur partition coefficient. The results refer tothe desulfurization efficiency of lime is entirely dependent on the oxygen content. On the other hand, the desulfurizing rate has its maximum value at 0.25% Si. The stirring energy has a linear relationship with the desulfurizing rate, as well as the desulfurizing rate has its ultimatum at 1893K. Eventually, the measured sulfur partition coefficient has closed values to that have been calculated from the Oxygen activity considered model.

A novel coumarin hydrazide ligand derived from the condensation of 7-hydroxy coumarin-4-ethylacetate with salicylaldehyde hydrazone and its complexes with Sm(III) and Eu(III) have been synthesized. The ligand and its complexes have been characterized by the Elemental analysis, Molar conductivity, FTIR, 1HNMR, and U.V. & Visible spectra. The complexes have stoichiometry of the type [Ln(L)2(H2O)2]NO3.2H2O where the ligand (HL) coordinates to the lanthanide ions Sm(III) and/or Eu(III) through azomethine nitrogen atom, phenolic oxygen of hydrazide moiety after deprotonation and ketonic oxygen of coumarin moiety. The fluorescence properties of complexes in different organic solvents (DMSO, DMF, Acetonitrile and Ethanol) have been studied. A strong red fluorescence of europium complex was observed and was attributed to the ligand energy transfers to the energy level of Eu(III).

Superabsorbents hydrogel were prepared by grafting of sugarcane bagasse on polyacrylic acid by using N, N\ -methylenebisacrylamide as cross-linker and ammonium persulphate as initiator. Factors such as weight ratios of bagasse and acrylicacid monomer that affect the properties of the product were investigated. Properties of superabsorbent such as water uptake, gel fraction, morphological structure and thermal properties were also examined.

A radiochemical separation of Ra isotopeswas carried out to determine the activity levels of radium (226Ra and 228Ra)in seawater samples, as well as providing a base-line data on background radiation in the investigated locations. Seawatersamples were collected from selected sites along the coasts. The water samples were analyzed for radium isotopes (Ra-226 & Ra-228) using alpha and liquid scintillation detectors.Development steps were applied to the radioanalysis procedure by using calcium phosphate co-precipitation and the addition of isopropanol. Quality assurance and method validation of the developed procedure was carried out to assure the results. The obtained results were within the uncertainty level ± 5%. Quality control steps were applied through the efficiency calibration of the detectors, the estimation of uncertainties, the use of blanks and the comparison with other laboratories. For comparison, selected samples were measured by gamma spectrometry using high purity germanium detector, after radiochemical separation of the isotopes with ion-exchange chromatography using a strong cation exchange resin, and the activity concentrations of 228Ra were comparable with those analyzed by the LSC. The average activity concentrations of 226Ra and228Ra in the Mediterranean seawater samples were found to be 166.8 and 500.6 mBq/L respectively, while in the Red seawater samples were 13.0 and 176.7 mBq/L respectively. The maximum value of radium activity was found at RasElBarr estuary, where the River Nile fresh water mixes with the coastal seawater. On the basis of the current results, we may conclude that the radium activities in the investigated seawater samples are well comparable to the corresponding reported values in literature.

2-(4-Oxothiazolidin-2-ylidene)acetonitrile and ethyl -2-(4-oxothiazolidin-2-ylidene)acetate (1a,b),were condensedwith anthralaldehyde(1:1 molar ratio) and gave 4,5-dihydro- 4-oxothiazole derivatives (2a,b).Refluxingof 2-(antharacene-9-yl-methylene) malononitrile in acetic acid with thioglycollic acid gave(3).4-Thiaz -olidinones containing bis- aryl methylidine moieties(4a-c) and (5a,b)were produced via condensation of either(2a) or (3) with aromatic aldehydes(1:1 molar ratio). Heating of (2a) with α-substituted cinnamonitriles gave the expected substituted thiazolo[3,2-a] pyridines (6a-d),(7) and (9a-c). Thiazolo [3,2-a] pyridine enamino- nitrile (6a) was refluxed with formic acid and phenyl hydrazine to form the corres-ponding thiazolo [3,2-a] pyridine derivatives (10) and (11) derivatives respectively. The structures of the prepared compounds were confirmed by using spectroscopic techniques; IR; 1HNMR ;13C NMR and Mass spectroscopy. Also, Anibactreial and antifungal activity were evaluated for some of synthesized compounds.
